CELPIP READING TIP #1: STOP READING THE WHOLE EMAIL
CELPIP READING TIP #1: STOP READING THE WHOLE EMAIL
Introduction
One of the biggest mistakes CELPIP candidates make is treating Reading Part 1 like a normal reading task. They open the email and start reading from the first line to the last line.
This approach feels logical, but it wastes valuable time. High-scoring candidates do something different.
They don't read the email first.
They read the question first.
This allows them to search for specific information instead of reading unnecessary details.
This strategy is especially useful in CELPIP Reading Part 1 (Reading Correspondence).
---
Why Most Students Run Out of Time
Students often:
- Read every sentence
- Focus on irrelevant details
- Forget the question
- Re-read paragraphs multiple times
- Get overwhelmed by long emails
The result:
- Slower reading speed
- Lower accuracy
- Increased stress
- Running out of time

ANSWER
This simple process helps you locate information quickly.
---
Step 1: Read The Question First
Before reading the email, read the question carefully.
Example:
Why can't Sarah attend the meeting?
Do not read the email yet.
Your brain now knows exactly what information it needs.
---
Step 2: Identify Keywords
Question:
Why can't Sarah attend the meeting?
Keywords:
- Sarah
- Attend
- Meeting
- Reason
These keywords become your search targets.
---
Step 3: Scan The Email
Now move to the email.
Do not read every sentence.
Look for:
- Sarah
- Meeting
- Attend
Your eyes should search instead of read.
---
Step 4: Find Evidence
Locate the sentence containing the answer.
The answer must be supported by evidence.
Never guess.
Never assume.
---
Step 5: Select The Answer
Choose the option supported by evidence.
Move on immediately.
